The Vault Makes Luxury Fashion More Accessible With 50 Style Options & Virtual Fitting Room

Nancy

The Vault by Volpe Beringer is the first-ever luxury resale market that opens the world of sustainability and luxury fashion to the disabled community by offering adaptive options and complimentary virtual consultations.

What was the inspiration to start this business?

My experience as the oldest ever competitor and runner up on Bravo's Project Runway at age 64 profoundly impacted me and influenced me to advocate for accessible fashion for the disabled community. The accessible nature of this groundbreaking platform enables everyone and anyone - including the disabled community - to have fashion to uniquely express themselves.

When you started your business, did you ever envision that you would be where you are now?

There is no way I could have ever dreamed at becoming a fashion designer at age 61, a red-carpet designer at age 62, a runner up on Project Runway at age 65, and then having Fashion Group International (FGI) select The Vault by Volpe Beringer as a 2022 FGI Rising Star finalist for New Retail Concept and the Diesel Sustainability Award.

Was there ever a time that things didn't fall into place, struggles, or challenges? What were they and how did you get passed it and grow from the experience?

The past two years of the pandemic have been filled with challenges. On March 12, 2020, I was on top of the world as I showed the world my accessible fashion on the finale episode of Bravo's Project Runway. Three days later, we were sheltered in place due to the pandemic restrictions. Throughout these trying years, an apartment fire displaced its residents and I had to move my studio and living quarters. After a quick temporary fix, I again moved a year ago, only to be faced with two tornadoes, a hurricane, and a collapsed basement ceiling. I am now also juggling being a full-time caregiver for my sister while following my calling to advocate for the disabled. My greatest inspiration and encouragement have been from my social media followers and the disabled community.

What was the biggest lesson you learned while starting and growing this business?

I always try find the good in people and the positive in surviving difficult experiences. Each challenge has taught me something important and made me more determined.

What would you tell a FEM that is struggling in her business and feel like it's too difficult?

To surround yourself with a positive support system. I have survived the stresses of single parenthood, adult bullying, self-doubt and now the pandemic because of the people who believe in me and offer me words of encouragement when most needed.

What continues to inspire you to keep on growing your business?

The positive messages I received on a consistent basis from my social media followers and the disabled community. I could write a book just of these messages as examples in the power of positive, kind, and supportive communication.

Final advice for those thinking of starting a business or looking to grow their current business?

In the words of Project Runway judge, Elaine Welteroth, "Make fear your friend." It's a principle that has unknowingly and successfully guided me throughout my life.
