WE BELIEVE …
All women deserve support, access and education to start a business or grow their brand.
All women deserve and are worthy to create wealth, balance and harmony in their life.
All women deserve access to networking, business workshops and social events in a safe space.
All women deserve to be a part of FemCity regardless of financial situations, background, color of skin, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disabilities.
This is our commitment as we move forward to become even more inclusive, equitable and diverse for all women.
LETTER TO OUR MEMBERS AS WE CLOSE OUT 2022
I believe that each day gives us the opportunity to be a better human to other humans and avenues of how to show empathy and support for others. During the pandemic, Lynn and I ventured off to get certified in Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity in Leadership through the University of Michigan. Once we obtained our certifications, we then sought out how to use the information we learned to make FemCity a better home for all women.
We created a DEI committee and we meet quarterly to review improvements, implementation and review of criteria and goals met. Here are a few components we took on and the changes we have made. We are sharing this transparently to illustrate that we are not perfect and are looking for ways to be there more for our Members and also to create a safe home for all women.
We installed Userway to our site to ensure that our site would be accessible to the hearing and visual impaired.
We added a DEI course in our Board Member and President certification program with additional resources included.
We have created initiatives and projects to bring awareness and education to DEI through panel conversations and programs.
We have sought out to include more diversity in our Presidents and Global communities.
We are now focused on creating diversity with our panels, speakers, podcast guests so all women are represented.
Many of our Presidents acknowledge and recognize Indigenous Tribes and their land before starting events.
We give out scholarships to all women who are not able to afford the FemCity Membership to ensure that all women are included and supported.
We are encouraging more and more of Presidents to take on more philanthropic work at the local level.
We removed divisive words that were insensitive to our community such as Tribe, Pow Wow and phrases like “does that make sense”.
Making our events ADA compliant and handicap accessible to ensure all Members have equitable access.
We are a women owned, small business and even with our limited financial resources, we seek to be better and better each day.
As we look to 2023, we will continue to add more ways to be more inclusive for all women. Thank you for your support and love,
Violette de Ayala
