Podcast & Co. For all your podcasting needs by the Digital creator Rubi Skilton
Podcast & Co. goes so much deeper than just a podcast production and management company. Our mission is to help women share their story, connect with their audience and make a greater impact through their mission. We work with our clients very closely and make sure that we are the best team to push their vision forward through the growing, 1 billion dollar industry, of podcasting.
What was the inspiration to start this business?
Podcast & Co. was actually born from a "selfish" reason. I pivoted from the music industry into the podcasting world at my rock bottom. I had completely lost myself, I was struggling with my mental and physical health and completely lost my voice. I became a "yes ma'am/sir" person.
So, I sat with my at the time coach and she challenged me to do something that terrified me, for me that was using my voice and sharing my story. That's when the idea to start a podcast was born. I started my podcast, would do all the editing and production, I have a degree in audio engineering so it was easy.
During this time I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life and my coach suggested I start editing podcasts for other podcasters. I pitched myself to my favorite, the host of a Forbes top podcast, she said yes and that's when Podcast & Co. was created all though back then it was just Rubi Skilton Podcast Editing services.
When you started your business, did you ever envision that you would be where you are now?
absolutely not! I was not strategic and never knew people would actual pay for podcast production.
Was there ever a time that things didn't fall into place, struggles, or challenges? What were they and how did you get passed it and grow from the experience?
Of course! A lot of times I've planned the steps or launches I needed to do to get to a certain goal and 9 out of 10 times they have not happened exactly how I planned. As a business owner there has been times where I've wanted to quit or unsure where the next client or student will come from but every time something doesn't go the way I plan I surrender to the plan that the universe has because it sees the bigger picture.
What was the biggest lesson you learned while starting and growing this business?
For me it was to do business in flow, to trust the universe and trust myself. There was a lot of unlearning I had to do when I first started. I had to unlearn how to do business in a "masculine" way and tap more into my feminine nature. Instead of hustling 24/7, finding the harmony between work and play. Making it fun, sticking to my mission and being driven by it. Of course there's days that I get to show up when I don't feel like it but always tapping back into my why has been such a game changer.
What would you tell a FEM that is struggling in her business and feel like it's too difficult?
I would first ask "why?" What is making it difficult? Most of the time it's difficult because we over think it, because we're trying to solve issues that aren't here right now. So if you're feeling overwhelmed, take a step back, breathe and ask yourself these four questions. What is my why? Who am I doing this for? How can this get to be easy? Who can I bring onto my team that has strengths in my weaknesses?
What continues to inspire you to keep on growing your business?
I'm a Capricorn so definitely my goals and lifestyle but beyond that is helping and serving women who may feel like they're not being heard. Helping business owners, entrepreneurs, well know individuals who have forgotten how to connect with their audience.
Final advice for those thinking of starting a business or looking to grow their current business?
If you want to start a business, go for it! The longer you wait the more time it'll take and also don't be scared to fail, fail fast and fail forward but keep going. To grow your business, go within. Stop searching for external answered, step back and tap into what your next move is. Trust the process, trust yourself.
