Why You Feel Stuck and How to Break the Patterns Holding You Back

Have you ever reacted to something and immediately thought, "Why do I keep doing that?" Maybe it's the way you shrink in certain situations, the relationships you find yourself repeating, or the quiet voice that tells you you're not enough no matter how much you achieve. You didn't choose those patterns. In many cases, you didn't even learn them — they were absorbed, inherited, and wired in long before you had the awareness to question them.

The good news is that what was programmed can be reprogrammed. Understanding where these patterns come from is the first step toward finally being free of them — and it starts not with more willpower or self-discipline, but with going deeper than the conscious mind has ever been able to reach.

So many women walk around carrying patterns and beliefs they didn't even consciously choose — where do those come from, and why are they so hard to break on our own?

Interestingly, many of the patterns, beliefs, and emotional tendencies we carry may have roots that extend beyond our conscious life experiences. Some researchers suggest that influences can begin before birth, through both prenatal experiences and inherited genetic or epigenetic factors. As a result, a child may develop certain sensitivities, fears, behavioral tendencies, or ways of perceiving the world that were not consciously learned and may not be fully explained by their upbringing alone.

Through adolescence and into adulthood, these unconscious patterns continue to influence how a woman thinks, feels, and responds to life, in addition to her influences from parents, teachers and peers and life experiences. Everything together shapes self-image, relationships, confidence, decision-making, emotional reactions, beliefs about the world, safety and behaviors.

Hypnotherapy changes everything because it gives access to the subconscious mind, where beliefs, emotional reactions, habits and behaviors were formed. Reprogramming at this level replaces outdated patterns with positive beliefs, behaviors, and emotions, creating lasting breakthroughs beyond the reach of willpower alone.

For the woman who feels stuck — not broken, just stuck — what is the first step toward creating change that actually lasts?

The first step is to question what they are thinking and understand it. For example, "I can't find time for myself." This is a common pattern and can lead to stress, anxiety and burnout.  Ask, "Is this true?" Are they overbooking themselves, taking on too many obligations or wasting time during the day overthinking or on social media?

Finding just fifteen minutes each day to unplug from distractions, step away from obligations, and be present can begin to shift everything. In moments of stillness, the mind becomes clearer; stress lightens, and new perspectives emerge. When women are stuck, they might feel trapped by how life currently seems because their mind has not been open to other possibilities.

Be open to guidance, fresh perspectives, and ideas from others. Notice any black-and-white or all-or-nothing thinking that might be limiting obvious solutions. When the mind says, "I can't," begin looking for what can be done, no matter how small the step may seem. Focusing on possibilities instead of limitations creates momentum toward goals. New opportunities emerge, doors open and confidence blossoms. And lastly, sometimes women feel stuck because they truly do not know how to do something. Learn, practice and succeed.

What is one mindset shift that has transformed the lives of your clients more than any other?

When clients blame themselves for their behaviors, thoughts, or emotional reactions, I help them understand that self-criticism stems from an internal voice attempting to create improvement, yet frequently reinforces the very patterns a person wants to change. Instead of creating growth, it can create resistance, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion. I align them with the fact that their past behaviors were not conscious choices, but automatic responses created by the brain based on previous experiences, conditioning, and learned patterns. In essence, the brain created a version of themselves not aligned with who they truly are. The wonderful thing is, the true version exists within them and can be created. This allows the present and future to be driven by new choices, empowering beliefs, and a clear vision of what is possible.
