Hulya Swim: A store with swimwear made from recycled ocean debris

We are cleaning the ocean one bikini at a time!

All of our bikinis are made from recycled ocean debris!

What was the inspiration to start this business?

My best friend and I met through riding horses so when it felt like it was time for a change in our livelihoods we found ourselves connected to the ocean.

During a majority of our dives we would be disgusted and upset with all the plastic and pollution there was in the ocean and we thought to ourselves if we don't do something then who will?

When you started your business, did you ever envision that you would be where you are now?

Never!!

I never in a million years would I have thought Hülya would become more than just a brand but becoming something that stands for something bigger than just swimwear.

Was there ever a time that things didn't fall into place, struggles, or challenges? What were they and how did you get past it and grow from the experience?

There are always hurdles when it comes to running a company! I think that is what makes being an entrepreneur unique and different!

We spend a lot of time on the road as we try to follow the migrations of the different marine animals we love to swim with so we find ourselves always coming across new challenges and struggles with our team being remote!

What was the biggest lesson you learned while starting and growing this business?

I think I have learned two really important lessons. The first lesson I think I have learned is to just start.

No matter what you want to do you will never get anywhere unless you just start. It doesn't matter where you start as long as you start somewhere because if you start somewhere then you will go somewhere.

The second lesson I have learned is that no matter what you have going on in your life say yes because you don't know what door that yes will open for yourself in the future.

Everything will work out in the end so why not take a risk and step outside of your comfort zone?

What would you tell a FEM that is struggling in her business and feel like it's too difficult?

You will always encounter struggles and difficulties but the way you handle and approach the situation will define the type of leader you will be.

Are you going to allow yourself to be overcome by your struggles or are you going to take charge of your life?

What continues to inspire you to keep on growing your business?

The biggest inspiration for me to keep growing Hülya is all the magical and special interactions I get with marine life and the ocean.

I am reminded on almost a daily basis of why I started and what I want my life to stand for. The ocean is a very powerful place and it really can be filled with lots of inspiration if you just sit and enjoy the beauty surrounding you.

Final advice for those thinking of starting a business or looking to grow their current business?

Whatever you do trust your gut and trust your heart.

You will have so many people giving you advice and chirping in your ear telling you what you should and shouldn't do but in reality chase your dreams and follow your heart.

You know best and never forget that.
