What was your aha moment in moving forward and starting your business?

I initially started the business just for my own use during my years as a celebrity hairstylist. Pretty soon, my friends started asking to wear my hair as well, and their social media promotion spread the word quicker than I ever could have imagined. All at once, I began receiving emails from people all over the country about my hair.

What were the challenges you faced as you started your business?

The economy crashed in 2009, and I started my business in 2010, so right off the bat it was an uphill struggle. Having two kids under the age of 2, supporting someone through law school, then getting divorced, having no business background, and lacking the money I needed all significantly made things more difficult. As my business progressed, I struggled with a brain tumor, turned multiple sclerosis diagnosis. How much time do you have? I could go on all day.

What did you learn along the way?

I took too long to hire help. I was scared that I couldn’t afford to hire help, and once I finally did, I quickly realized I was able to focus my energy on things that I’m actually good at. When I was finally able to concentrate on my strengths, my productivity increased and I was able to accomplish my goals more efficiently.

What would you say to a FEM that is looking to launch her business and she’s facing some challenges?

There are more people out there willing to help you than you know. I wish I would have asked more questions and reached out more as I was getting started. There’s a whole community of women business owners and we are thrilled to have you be one of us.

What was the biggest tip you wish you knew before you started to really grow your business?

Do what you do best, and hire the rest.

Final advice?

Find your why... I am so lucky to do what I love: having a brand that instills confidence in women. I will say owning a business is extremely hard work. There are days where you think everything is going smooth, and there are days you ask yourself why you are doing what you’re doing. If you’re passionate about what you do, you’ll be able to endure the hard days and enjoy the great ones even more.
