JEN FASSINO // Founder of Nomad Haircare
What was the aha moment you had to inspire you to launch your business?
My "aha moment" came to me while I was working as a hairdresser in Wisconsin. I realized that I was having a reaction to certain products I was using and discovered over time what the issue was. After researching products I could use, I quickly learned that there was a very large gap in the market and started creating my own products with the assistance of a chemist.
Did you know that this was the right path for you?
Yes. I have always been passionate about education in the hair industry and it has always come naturally to me. This was a way to keep the hair world close to me but explore my own personal wants and needs when it came to products.
What kind of confirmation did you receive to make it feel in alignment?
At first, I really didn't. Most people I first discussed this with thought I was a little insane. But as I continued to show them the product and talk about my mission, more people aligned with the vision.
What 3 action steps can you share with women that are looking to follow their passion in business?
First, don't just do it for the money. That will come in time. Pursue something you constantly think about and are more or less obsessed with doing/finding a solution too. Second, do your research. Find out if what you want to do exists. Can you improve the "space" you want to enter or create something new, different or beneficial to the community you want to break into? And lastly, Don't let negative thoughts sway you or let others make you think you can't do something. Yes, this journey will be hard, but there is room for anyone to do anything! Do not give up. Stay the course. Don't listen to the bullshit.
What was a moment you seemed to have failed but you now recognize it was a blessing?
There are honestly so many to recount. The one that comes to mind first, is that the "job" I had secured when I was moving from WI to LA fell through 1 week before I moved! I told 3 friends and no one else and moved to LA anyway. I played the whole scenario in my head for the few days it took me to drive to LA. Alone. In a 17ft moving truck pulling my car. Thinking about how fucked I was going to be and what I would do. The hair assistant job with the women I got and lost was a blessing to lose. I heard through the grapevine/industry she was extremely hard and abusive to work for and I dodged a bullet! She is doing very well at the moment which is hard to watch online, but many hair professionals and clients all say she is the devil.
What does business for your soul mean to you? Do you incorporate gratitude with your work? Share kindness with clients?
To me, it means to do something with purpose. Do not half-ass something. Don't do it unless you are passionate about the outcome or mission. When you wake up feeling good/proud everyday your soul is connected to the work you are doing. I make sure to express gratitude in messages, so I hope it comes off as genuine, and not a generic email sign off/ending lol.

ABOUT JEN FASSINO and NOMARD HAIRCARD:
After years of trying different styling products as a hairdresser, Nomad Haircare founder Jen Fassino noticed vast skin conditions starting to develop. Through the process of studying cosmetic chemistry for several years to get to the bottom of her skin issues, Jen discovered that silicone was one of the main culprits in her skin woes as a known comedogenic ingredient; and she was appalled to learn the extent that unregulated chemical ingredients were being used in personal care products.
Jen’s mission in founding Nomad Haircare was to create a brand of haircare products that people could trust— using only clean ingredients, while raising the bar on performance; because no one should develop health issues in their pursuit of beauty. She fell in love with the restorative and anti-inflammatory attributes of CBD oil, and worked to blend it with scientifically proven and clean ingredients, for the perfect combination of performance, safety, and sustainability.
All Nomad Haircare products are non-toxic, cruelty-free, vegan, and proudly made in in the USA.
