Charley Madelyn : a fashion and faith boutique
Our brand's mission is to Empower women through Faith and Fashion and to encourage women to continue on their dreams and walk confidently in this world.
In July we announced that we would be partnering with couples that are wanting to start their own family and have had to go through other routes to do so- each month we donate 10% of our monthly proceeds to a couple either just starting their fertility treatments or in the midst of them-we call this program our Fertility Believers.
What was the inspiration to start this business?
The inspiration to start this business was actually my blog that was created in 2017- A Fashionable Believer. It confirmed and affirmed that not only can the two worlds that I love so much faith and fashion could co-exist but could actually colide and work together to empower women.
Also, our twin daugthers, (Charley and Madelyn) whom the boutique is named after, are also my inspirations, they serve to me as a beacon of hope and that your wildest dreams are right in front of you, and we want to serve as that inspiration to others.
When you started your business, did you ever envision that you would be where you are now?
Launching in June, I really was so overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received over these past few months. God has truly affirmed that He is working in our lives and this dream of mine isn't accidential. I am so grateful for everyone we have connected with and they continue to serve as encouragement to me.
Was there ever a time that things didn't fall into place, struggles, or challenges? What were they and how did you get passed it and grow from the experience?
This sums up 2020 right?! I am sure for most of us 2020 hasn't been what we imagined when we said Happy New Year on January 1st, but my goodness, I have learned so much. God has truly shown me the power of Being Still and allowing Him to work.
I have had to pivot my entire launch party, had to figure out what brands to carry virtually and estimate quality and sizing via online. It hasn't been easy, but I am learning and I think all of the uncomfortables in 2020 will make me and everyone a better person, leader, mom, wife, son, daugther to come.
What was the biggest lesson you learned while starting and growing this business?
Giving myself grace. I am my worst critic and I think at times we all can be right. Even though you are embarking on one of the biggest journey's of your life, that inner self finds something to criticize- you should carry this line; you should have this many sales a month and if you don't you aren't successful- having goals are amazing and absolutely encouraged, but if you don't make them give yourself grace. You are learning and that alone deserves grace.
What would you tell a FEM that is struggling in her business and feel like it's too difficult?
Keep going. I always wonder what if your turnaround is tomorrow but you quit today, you will never see it. Just keep moving. When you move God moves (and sometimes we don't even have to move), and His moves are much bigger than ours. Have faith. That dream and vision wasn't planted in your heart on accident, it's there for a reason, you can do this!
What continues to inspire you to keep on growing your business?
Ahh so many things! God continues to give me strength on the good and the bad days. Right when I think maybe this isn't the right choice, He chooses to show me this is exactly where you are supposed to be. My family- my husband and my daugthers are my inspiration. I want to show my daughters that they can be anything in this world that they want. I want to be a role model to them.
Final advice for those thinking of starting a business or looking to grow their current business?
Do it Scared. Do it even if you don't have it all figured out, even when you aren't in the perfect situation, do it. I promise it will be so rewarding.
