B U Beautiful Unapologetically Fragrance Line was created to uplift and empower women everywhere.

Monique Plair

In service to honor survivors of domestic violence and paying homage to those who've gained their wings early, leaving loved ones behind to carry on their legacy.

We want to remind women of the inner beauty that resonates on the outer, as a result, B U Beautiful Unapologetically Fragrance Line was created.

What was the inspiration to start this business?

As a survivor I wanted to go beyond my own expectations and pass that message and mission by paying it forward.

When you started your business, did you ever envision that you would be where you are now?

I saw it and carried it in my thoughts for many years, so I knew it was a God sent passion because I found myself losing sleep while creating the vision into fruition. When I realized this, like many other accomplishments I have been blessed to do, I knew I was charged to see it through, and I am still moving forward regardless of any roadblocks or distraction s. I'm that tenacious.

Was there ever a time that things didn't fall into place, struggles, or challenges? What were they and how did you get passed it and grow from the experience?

Oh Absolutely! I learned early, not everyone will understand your vision, I had no financial funding or backing from anyone, and kept thinking of creative ways to make it happen. I wasn't working from December until February, was healing from complete knee reconstruction surgery and still remaining on the Dean's List in pursuit of my BS Degree in Aviation Aerospace. Because I am a licensed Independent Claims Adjuster, I am able to get contracted assignments to help me self fund as well as my VA disability benefits.

What was the biggest lesson you learned while starting and growing this business?

Whatever I make up my mind to do, I am relentless in doing so, no matter what it looks like, and though I have never prayed for patience...I've been blessed daily to have it in abundance.

What would you tell a FEM that is struggling in her business and feel like it's too difficult?

Believe in yourself! You have the ability to carry it. You cannot do everything on your own as you plan and build your brand. Find a few amazing team members...professionally first, that are experts in their field, stay on task and remain focused.

What continues to inspire you to keep on growing your business?

The stories I see, hear or read daily about another woman surviving an abusive situation or another life loss because they stayed a second too long because they believed the lie that they have no choice, mo money, no help, no one that cares.

Final advice for those thinking of starting a business or looking to grow their current business?

Your business should be your passion. Write out your plan. Your passion never feels like a daunting task that you do, have no joy or fulfillment while you're doing it. That's just like going to work at a job you despise, don't know why you're doing it, hate your boss and dread getting out of bed to get there. Think about how your business will change things or enhance the lives of others because of what you offer. Dare yourself to be a better version of what you thought of yourself and what your business would look like.
