we are never only the teacher

WITH GLOBAL MEMBER DR. EVA WOLF

When I was a teenager, I taught my grandmother how to read.

At the time, I thought I was the teacher. Now, looking back, I understand that I was also the student.

She taught me something that I have carried throughout my life: intelligence is not defined by ones credentials and growth does not have to end.

Years later, I built a technology company from the ground up. We bootstrapped it and fell down a few times but kept getting up. I learned marketing because I had to. I learned SEO because customers had to find us. I learned how to explain complicated technology because people do not buy what they do not understand.  I became fascinated with technology adoption.

And then, after more than a decade of building, I became a student again.

I returned to school to study digital transformation and artificial intelligence. I LOVED every second of it and earned my doctorate researching AI and marketing at age 53!  I eventually found myself standing in front of classrooms teaching the next generation of marketers.

Now I work with business owners who echo the same sentiment: “Everything is changing so fast…I don’t know where to start.”

My answer is usually: start with what YOU already know.

Your experience, stories, client questions, mistakes, expertise and women's intuition are extraordinarily valuable in today's world. Why not leverage that? AI cannot replace any of that. Used thoughtfully, it can help your knowledge go farther, perhaps to the person searching Google, asking ChatGPT for a recommendation, reading your newsletter, or …deciding whether they trust you enough to call.

Reinvention does not mean abandoning who you were.

Sometimes it means taking everything you have learned and asking:

“What could this become next?”

I often remember my grandmother whenever I’m learning something new.

The most powerful thing she taught me was:

We are never only the teacher.

We can always become the student again.

Teaching and helping others is one of the most rewarding things we can do.
